Decatur is located at the intersections of U.S. Hwy 287 and U.S. Hwy 380. Fort Worth, Grapevine, Keller, and Denton are all 45 minutes or less away. There are several lakes around. If fighting the traffic and construction of Denton isn’t on your list of fun things to do, 25 mins away is Lake Bridgeport a man-made, freshwater reservoir located in Wise and Jack Counties with plenty of boat ramps and space to fish. Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Hybrid Bass, and Sand Bass are some of the noted varieties of gamefish caught there. The lake sits upstream from Eagle Mountain Lake approximately 40 minutes from Decatur, known for water sports such as sailing, wake boarding, water skiing, and kayaking.
In 2010, the population within the city limits was 6,042. The climate is typically hot and humid summers, with cool to mild winters. Home to the largest Independent School District in Wise County, boasting both public and privately owned public-use airports, six amazing school campuses and a close community, Decatur is the perfect home to balance city life and nature.
